Elena Tkachenko is a well-known Saint-Petersburg based artist working with textile. The exquisite sense of colours and high professionalism allow her not only to work with traditional techniques but also create individual unique methods of interlacing.
The result of her experimenting over the last five years is stunning beauty of her of laced pictures. This is due to the original technique which might be called "painting with threads": Elena weaves thousand meters of multi-coloured strings into the most complicated on colour scale shawl-cloths, selecting and varying the smallest shades of colour.

The works of Elena Tkachenko can be found in museum collections: the State Hermitage, the Russian Costume Department, the 21st century, the State Palace of Congresses - the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg, the Chenzhou Art Museum, Hainan Province in China, in the collection of the Princess of Kent and other private foreign and Russian collections.

Among the thousands of the finest woven threads joined together in picturesque canvases, three series of “precious” textile canvases were created: Penelope among cities (2009), Song of Songs (2010) and St. Petersburg (2011). The forms of installations can be very diverse depending on the space and the idea. According to the artist's intention, “precious fabric” is exhibited on a museum mannequin with loose strings drawn and fastened to the podium. The painstaking process of creating each installation requires a lot of time, but it allows to show the viewer the entire unique Beauty of the object of contemporary art, revealing every millimeter of the richest surface color of the fabric.


In the installations of Elena Tkachenko, a planar object acquires volume proving to be in close contact with the viewer. Color takes shape. There is a new visual and semantic sense of the artistic image which by the power of emotional impact unites both sculpture and painting, going beyond the usual perception of all types of fine art.
